Like millions of others out there, I love Ree Drummond a.k.a “The Pioneer Woman”.  Her ability to share her writing and giftings with the world in such an authentic manner is why I love and admire her so much. She is humble, funny, and generous and it shows in her blog. I’ve always appreciated how she comes along side her readers giving them the encouragement they need to learn something as if she is your dearest friend and biggest cheerleader. She is for them, she is for me. Never does she speak down to her readers with a voice of “expert” but as one who passionately loves to share the good things in life with her audience.

Last month I had the privilege of finally meeting her in San Francisco during Blogherfood.  She is even more wonderful, gracious, and genuine than I could have imagined.  So it was with much anticipation I looked forward to her cookbook being released tomorrow.  And fortunately for me as an attendee of the conference I was able to receive a preview copy.

In her cookbook “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl“, readers will recognize Ree’s familiar voice of friend and coach.  Each recipe in this cookbook is real country cooking in all its glory.  None of the dishes are over complicated, just simple home cooking at its finest.  My husband calls it “man food”. And for the record, he lives for man food!  Honestly, her recipes are similar to the ones his grandma used to make for him growing up and he was very fond of Granny Gayle and her cooking.  But now Granny Gayle is cooking with the angels in Heaven but her cooking lives on in our home through Ree’s cookbook.

One cannot help but imagine being transported to Ree’s Ranch when preparing and eating these dishes. Every dish has detailed step-by-step photos (tons of photos!) and instructions making it virtually impossible for home cooks to fail.  The recipes are not hard to execute and many of the ingredients are items likely in your home already.

Earlier in the week I prepared Skillet Cornbread from her cookbook and it was wonderful!  The recipe can be found here.  Coincidentally, tomorrow  is  my birthday which is the official release date of Ree’s cookbook.  As a pre-birthday celebration, yesterday my husband with the help of my daughters (who know how to operate my Kitchenaid)  surprised me by baking Ree’s French Breakfast Puffs out of her cookbook.    To some, this would not seem like a big deal, but for me it is totally a big deal!  Just as an FYI, my husband does not cook or bake.  You could imagine my shock when the kids brought a plate of muffins to my bed and he explained they baked these for me.  They were a huge hit in our family!! If Rob can bake these, anyone can bake and cook out of this cookbook. Thank God Ree included lots of pictures to help him!  On a funny note, Rob documented the whole process with my camera while I was sleeping. (Notice the kids birthday candle?!)

This cookbook is a gift of love.. from her family to yours.  I would highly recommend this cookbook for anyone who loves real home cooking like chicken fried steak, buttermilk biscuits and red velvet cake.  Her photos, story-telling, and recipes will make this cookbook a treasured piece in your kitchen.  Get your Holiday shopping done early and order a few copies now! Perfect timing for Christmas presents!

For 1 lucky person, I am giving away a SIGNED COPY of  “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl“  All you have to do is leave a comment about your favorite home-style dish or why you love Ree too.  US Addresses only please.  Contest will close Saturday, 10/31 at 9pm PST.

Contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered.

“The Pioneer Woman Cooks” is the first blogsite I ever read. It is the site that started me on my journey to being addicted to many cooking blog sites. I love to cook, bake, and experiment on different recipes. I wish I could write as well as the many sites I have read.
But I must confess, PWC will always be my favorite. I know I would enjoy reading her book even more than I have enjoyed site.

I found out about Ree’s site from a newspsper in Oklahoma and have since shared her site with all of my friends. She is a fabulous down-home cook and her blog is so very entertaining. It’s like I know her family personally. She is a great representative for the State of Oklahoma. We love her.

My Grandma grew up in Mississippi, and she knew how to cook. I loved her homemade sausage gravy and biscuits!

I recently started reading Ree’s blog, and I love the stories of life on the ranch.

My favorite homestyle dish is homemade pies. I wish I could make great crust. I’m going to have to work on it.

I love Ree’s blog because it reminds me of my childhood grwing up in rural Illinois. Now Im in the busy suburbs in Connecticut and there’s no one to share or get tips from this style of life anymore. Her posts remind me of people long gone and very much missed.

My favorite homestyle dish is chicken cacciatore (I’m Italian!).

I really enjoy Ree’s blog and have been reading it for awhile. I’ve tried many of her recipes–the onion and blue cheese sauce that she pairs with rib eye steaks is incredible!

I watched a clip of Ree on the Bonnie Hunt show and she’s exactly as you described her – down to earth, funny and delightful to watch. Maybe she should have her own show!

Favorite county cooking? Shepard’s pie probably takes the cake. I love a good buttermilk biscuit, too. And Ree? I don’t laugh out loud often…but some of her posts get me there. Thanks for the preview!

I love Ree because she is not afraid to be honest. She cracks me up with her commentary and sense of honest humor. I also love her step by step directions so you don’t have to wonder if yours looks right when following her recipes. And she made me like cowboys. Never found a cowboy so sexy until I started reading Ree’s blog and her love story.

My favorite homestyle meal is fried chicken with all the fixings. But only when someone else makes it and cleans up cause when I make it there is a huge mess to clean up afterwards. Definately more comforting when prepared by someone else!

I got roped into Ree’s blog early this summer and have been addicted to her humor and wit and lovely photos of life on a big ranch ever since. I’ve been marking many of her recipes as “to do” and saving links to them, but her cookbook might be just the thing to get me really cooking!

I just watched her on the Bonnie Hunt show and she sure seems exactly like she writes…down to earth, funny and warm! I’d say my favorite comfort food is home-made chicken pot-pie with home-made herb crust. Dang that just made me hungry. What fun you two got to hang out.

I love TPW website, and how positive and encouraging Ree is. She makes me feel like I can, in fact, attempt her recipes.

My favorite homestyle recipe from her site is the Crash Potatoes. Otherwise my favorite is probably my cousin Amy’s recipe for baked corn casserole with velveeta cheese…something I buy only once a year, just for that recipe.

I love Ree’s recipes because I know that they will be super delicious and pretty much a home run no matter which one I make. I love trying new recipes but there is generally the “what if it fails” concern and that is not just an issue with Ree’s recipes. They are also easy to follow and don’t require super hard to find or super expensive or a super long list of ingredients. And, although my thighs do not thank her, many many people in my life are quite grateful for her Texas Sheetcake recipe! I would SO love to win this cookbook signed by Ree!

I am 64 and I have been inspired to cook dishes I wouldn’t have considered before I started reading Ree’s blog. Her instructions are clear, concise and photographed! She makes cooking fun with her remarks interspersed among her instructions. She is not only a great cook but a funny, interesting writer and wonderful photographer. I would love her book, actually, for my daughter, who is a wonderful cook and follows Ree’s blog, also.
