Memorial Day weekend in Seattle is always problematic for me because the weather is so unpredictable. My oldest daughter asked if she could host a BBQ for a couple families in the neighborhood Memorial Day. With the weather as it was (on Friday), I checked the weather report on three news channels, the local paper, and online weather stations. According to these sources Sunday was the only day it wasn’t suppose to rain. We invited two families over on Sunday and of course… it was grey, cold, and raining. Yesterday (Monday) was beautiful, sunny, and warm – typical Seattle weather.. so moody!
For our BBQ, the great folks at Sam’s Club provided me with a gift card for everything we needed including pork back ribs, wild Copper River salmon, hot dogs, buns, potato chips, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and other party essentials.
Even though our BBQ was moved indoors, everyone had a great time. Abigail has earned the title of ” hostess with the mostess.” She even baked and decorated a Memorial Day cake for dessert which disappeared quickly. I’m quite proud of her!
Now if you were to come to our house for a bbq, you would get to meet Rob’s BFF, Mr Charbroil Grill. This grill is at least 15 years old and has been a faithful companion to my husband.
When I went to clean the grill for our bbq, guess what I discovered? Apparently, Mr. Charbroil is also BFF with some bees. But really…you don’t care about our grill. If I had to pick one favorite food to grill, it would be bell peppers, especially red or yellow ones. I love how grilling intensifies their sweetness. Onions are probably a close second. The first building where we rented an apartment in Seattle had a shared rooftop deck with a grill, and we used to make delicious veggie kebabs with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and tomatoes.
Steak on the grill minimalist style is.the.best!

Pretty much anything! I will say that I enjoy eating pretty much anything off of the grill. My hubby is the cook, and we have branched out in our cooking outside. No more just meat, but veggies too. Still haven’t tried the desserts, so maybe we need to begin working in that area as well.

That truly IS the ultimate grill-what beauty! And what parties you could throw!! Loved your daughter’s cake and that she was the hostess with the mostess-she’s obvious caught your love of food and entertaining! Only one food to choose from…so hard as I love the smokiness grilling imparts on everything, and a grill is so versatile for everything, even baking! So my fav would have to be chicken, because it’s inexpensive and you can change the flavors and parts soo many ways. Ayup, chicken-roasted whole, in parts, boneless and skinless, marinated or with mustard or BBQ sauce, or in kebabs-the variety is endless!

WOW! The grill I have is so beat up and cruddy and I’ve been holding out for a gas grill now for the last two years. I loooove love love grilling and BBQing.
I love plank grilled salmon, grilled veggie kebabs, rosemary balsamic New York steaks and Portabello Mushrooms. So tough to pick just one fave from all of those but I think I’d have to go with New York Steaks.
