{Cookbook Review} Pam Anderson’s Perfect One-Dish Dinners and Giveaway!

by Alice Currah on August 19, 2010. Updated August 22, 2010

Last week I posted a wonderful recipe for Salsa Verde Chicken with Herbed Cornmeal Dumplings from Pam Anderson’s Perfect One-Dish Dinners: All You Need for Easy Get-Togethers.  The week I returned home from New York City I was cooking out of her book to feed my family and boy did we feel spoiled.  If you are not familiar with Pam, she is the former Executive Editor for Cook’s Illustrated magazine, currently a Contributing Editor for Fine Cooking magazine, USA Today Food Columnist, and a New York Times best-selling author of six cookbooks including this latest cookbook scheduled for release in a few weeks.  She and her daughters, Maggy and Sharon, also publish a beautiful food blog called Three Many Cooks.

Maggy, Pam, and Sharon Anderson

I had the privilege and honor of finally meeting Pam in her Bucks County, PA home where she and I both spoke at an all-day food blogging event.  Part of the lovely swag we received for attending was a copy of her book.  I knew the moment I thumbed through it I would love it.  The book itself is beautiful.  Each photo in the book makes you wish you could jump right into the page and start eating.  The recipes are written clearly and some of them have footnotes for instant alternatives – got to love that!  There are even wine suggestions for some of the recipes to help you take the guess work out of figuring out which wines pair best with each meal.

What I love about this cookbook aside from the beautiful food photography is how simple and doable each dish is.  The recipes are inspired not only by American style comfort food, but she incorporates global flavors for maximum flavor with little effort.  So far I’ve prepared three of the dishes and each one was delicious, satisfying, and memorable.

"Paella, Doable, Delicious"

"Shrimp Ceviche Dip"

"Salsa Verde Chicken with Herbed Cornmeal Dumplings"

The cookbook includes favorite dishes like mac and cheese and blueberry cheese cake ice cream but also includes some fun ones such as carnita-style beef and white wine marinated strawberries.  Portion sizes are generous and will likely give you some leftovers for the next day.

Would I recommend this book?  Absolutely and without any reservation.  These recipes would be perfect for a family dinner or feeding guests any day of the week.   All culinary skill levels will enjoy cooking from this book.

Perfect One-Dish Dinners: All You Need for Easy Get-Togethers is available for pre-order right now.

I made the Salsa Verde Chicken with Herbed Cornmeal Dumplings last Saturday for our community Club Potluck and was the shining star of the whole dinner. It is the first Pamela Anderson recipe I’ve tried, but I’m really anxious to try more if this is any indication!
I would be thrilled to have a copy of “Perfect One-Dish Dinners” I wish I could Twitter…. I’d enter twice!

I make a lot of one pot meals, but my favorite would probably be chicken and dumplings, so I am really looking forward to trying the recipe you posted from Pam’s new book.

My favorite Pam Anderson recipe comes from her “the perfect recipe” book: macaroni and cheese. (Another one pan, yes?!)

im definitely a dessert junkie….so i have to go with the mini lemon-raspberry cakes. they are almost as good as the ones from nothing bundt cake. that’s usually where i go when i’m too lazy to bake. but pam’s cakes are just as good :) .

One-pot meals are probably my hand’s down favorite, anyway, so its hard to pick the best of them. It is probably my salsa chicken or smoked sausage chili.

I try to make every meal a one dish meal (less clean up)! But probably my fave is chicken paprikash because it’s so easy and hearty and the kids gobble it up.

One of my favorite types of one pot meals…what to choose? I make a herbed lamb stew that has sour cream mixed in at the end that satisfies me every time or my favorite skillet lasagna that has no meat, but the most simple tomato sauce from canned tomatoes. The pot generally stretches over into next day’s lunch which provides double the enjoyment!

I am going to say chili because I just don’t know that many one pot meals. It sounds like that needs to change!
