The Pioneer Woman Cooks – Food From My Frontier

Most days checking my mailbox is very uneventful but a necessary daily routine.   Often the only pieces of mail waiting for me are advertisements, utility bills, and shopping catalogs still addressed to the previous owners.  But once in awhile I’ll receive a letter, card, or package from a friend, which is always a welcomed surprise. 
Two weeks ago when I went to check the mail I was struck with instant curiosity by the large yellow envelope in our mailbox.  When I opened the envelope addressed to me I was pleasantly surprised to see a copy of The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier Cookbook authored by Ree Drummond.

If you’ve followed Savory Sweet Life through the years, you know what a special person and friend she is to me.  So to receive an unexpected advance copy of her book was indeed very special.  Before looking through her book I made myself an afternoon coffee, grabbed a plush throw blanket, and plopped myself on the couch with her new cookbook knowing I was in for a very special treat. 

As I began to flip through the cookbook, the first photo I saw was for her Homemade Glazed Doughnuts.  This is how special friendships with cookbooks are forged, through glorious homemade doughnuts.  It was at that moment I knew this cookbook and I were going to be good friends.

Formatted like her debut cookbook (The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl), readers will appreciate her familiar style of helpful and beautiful step-by-step and full page photos (she photographed herself) to guide you through each recipe from start to finish.  Each step is written as if Ree is in the kitchen with you in a personalized and fun voice.  She also gives helpful tips and variations for most recipes, including what to do with the leftovers.

From Breakfast Bread Pudding to Rib-Eye Steak with Onion-Blue Cheese Sauce, the recipes range from the familiar to elevated versions of classics.  Also included in the cookbook are recipes for Mango Margaritas (rimmed with sugar and lime zest), Thai Chicken Pizza, and Knock You Naked Brownies – the more fun aspect of Ree’s cooking repertoire shining through!  This cookbook is an expression of loving life, family, and friends with good food.  You’ll find recipes for family meal time and for entertaining guests.

The dishes in this cookbook are fun, accessible, crowd-pleasing, and family friendly.  The type of home cooking that conveys, “You are loved… so very loved.”

I absolutely LOVE her chicken parmigiana and so does my husband, who is a very picky eater. I just need a cookbook with the recipe in it now so i can stop using my computer!!! That gets messy!

Hands down- we love the Chicken Spaghetti! I have given this comfort casserole to friends and family who are needing a little pick me up and they always beg for the recipe. The cayenne gives it just enough zing-YUm, YuM, yUM!

Oh my gosh. Its hard to pick a favorite. So many of her recipes are huge hits with my family. One that we make frequently is her Beef stir fry. I also recently made her tofu stir fry served in lettuce cups.
