Ginger Peach Mint Bisque

by Alice Currah on July 12, 2012

One of the most motivating aspects of developing recipes is how it forces me to think outside the box within a certain set of parameters.  Most recipes you’ll see here on Savory Sweet Life or PBS Parents are quick or easy, and often times both.

Back in May our family took a Southern California vacation by flying down to San Diego and returning home via a Carnival cruise.  As much as I love cruise vacations, this one was less enjoyable due to stormy weather.  However, every evening I looked forward to enjoying a sit down dinner ordering off an impressive menu.  During the “formal” dinner I had ordered a strawberry bisque soup as my starter dish.  I wasn’t sure what to expect but I do remember being very excited about tasting this particular dish.

Needless to say it wasn’t as spectacular as I had hoped it would be.  Although I wasn’t expecting a chilled fruit soup to be savory, I wasn’t expecting it to be too sweet either.  I was hoping for balance and unfortunately it was more of a dessert type dish – at least to me.  However, not all was lost.  Using the fruit bisque as inspiration, I came up with my own fruit bisque recipe using a few bold tasting ingredients and blending them together.  The end result was surprisingly refreshing and delightful – perfect for a hot summer day.

Intended to be a starter and not a meal on its own, this Ginger Peach Mint Bisque would make a great starter to any summer meal.  Best of all it only takes a couple minutes to pull together and looks and tastes impressive -my favorite types of dish to make.

The full recipe can be found on today’s PBS Parents post.  Enjoy!

Heyyyyy I didn’t know you were in San Diego! I missed your visit!

but anyway, this bisque looks fantastic! I love ginger anything, and i can imagine it tasting amazzzzzing with peach. The mint + ginger is definitely going to remind me of my grandma’s cooking, too. So many reasons for me to make this!

This recipe looks awesome! I HIGHLY recommend that everyone gets their hands on a copy of Savory Sweet Life cookbook. It is my new favorite cookbook of all time! We have a family of 7 with some very picky eaters, but everything I have tried has been a huge hit with them.

Your emails do not contain recipes any more – it seems it is just to sell your cook books and those of Ree’s. I have them both. I want recipes like the old days

Hi Andrea,
Sorry you are disappointed with the lack of recipes here. With all three of my kids home during the summer all day, writing and shooting 1-2 recipes weekly is all I can handle at the moment. I’ve always made it a priority to my kids to be mom to them first above anything else, especially blogging. I have a great granola recipe I’ll be posting soon- hope you’ll be back for that one.

Alice
