Spice Islands – Spiced Roasted Chickpeas

by alice on November 21, 2011 · 16 comments

Throughout the last couple years I have been very fortunate to partner with some fabulous companies here on Savory Sweet Life.  The companies (and their products) I choose to work with are ones I personally love and use regularly, making my partnership with them very enjoyable and easy to share with SSL readers.  I am happy to announce my partnership with Spice Islands – a well known producer of the finest spices from around the world.

One of my most favorite things I would do at the grocery store when I was young was to go down the aisle with the spices and look at all the different varieties or spices and herbs in the Spice Islands bottles with the brown caps.  I was always fascinated with spices and I still am today.  I love experimenting with new recipes using different spices to expand my knowledge for personal enrichment.  Working with Spice Islands is a natural fit for me and I am looking forward to sharing new recipes I’ve created for you to enjoy – starting with this Spiced Roasted Chickpeas. Green Beans with Bacon and Pecans

by alice on April 26, 2011 · 27 comments

When it comes to green beans, I’m a -plain Jane kind of girl.  I usually saute them in a little bit of oil, season them with salt and pepper, and top them off with a small pat of butter.  But last Sunday for our Easter dinner, I changed it up a little bit.  I decided on making a greens beans tossed in a maple syrup-Dijon dressing with crumbled bacon and candied pecans.  Oh my word, this was the perfect side dish to serve along side gratin potatoes, mac and cheese, fruit salad, and spiral ham.  I loved the the sweetness from the maple syrup with the tang of the mustard.  Adding the bacon and pecans pulled everything together for one fantastic side dish. Seven Layer Dip Recipe

by alice on February 3, 2010 · 45 comments

Did you know the way to a man’s heart is through seven layer dip?  Seriously.  Superbowl Sunday is days away and football fans everywhere will be dipping tortilla chips in guacamole, salsa, and refried beans.

Seven layer dip is the best of all worlds.  The dip itself is very easy to make especially if you buy pre-made guacamole and salsa.

Instead of preparing the dip in a large platter I decide to make individual sized portions.  This way I can pull them out of the fridge as needed.  If you’re looking for an easy and fun dip to celebrate Superbowl Sunday or any party, look no further. Enjoy! [click to continue…]

Hummus

Hummus
[donotprint] Do you love hummus? Have you ever tried making it at home? If you have, then you know how ridiculously easy, fast, and delicious it is. You can make hummus in less than 5 minutes.  Homemade hummus taste just like those expensive containers you buy at the store, except better and for a fraction of the cost!

The last few weeks my husband and I have been trying to eat a little healthier around here.  Because we’re usually up late every night, we get the munchies for junk food. So lately I’ve been making healthier alternatives to our late night snacking. This includes homemade hummus I use as a dip for celery, snap peas, and carrot sticks. I’ve also used it as a spread for veggie sandwiches and it is awesome!

Most people may not be aware how simple it is to make hummus. It’s made with garbanzo beans (chickpeas), tahini (sesame paste), and a few other ingredients you probably have in your pantry.  Hummus is a versatile dip/spread perfect for vegetables, crackers, or as a filling inside a pita.
