It’s been a week since our family started the Least Challenging Challenge sponsored by the producers of Silk non-dairy products. As it would turn out, what began as a hesitant reaction to switch to Silk Light Vanilla Soy and Silk Pure Vanilla Almond milk from our regular milk products has now become a non-issue for our family, even the kids. A few days ago my family and I started the “Least Challenging Challenge” by the producers of Silk non-dairy products. The challenge was to switch from regular milk, and in the case of my oldest daughter switch from her normal soy milk, to Silk Light Vanilla and Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milks. I was already concerned with the transition, and sure enough on the first day the kids were upset with me. My three year old son, Eli, actually cried. He loves eating cereal most mornings and he did not appreciate me changing products even though we were out of regular milk. He decided instead not to eat his breakfast at all. My older daughters switched over with very little fuss. Abigail is used to drinking Silk Very Vanilla Soy milk so she didn’t mind very much switching over to a lighter version. My other daughter, Mimi, mentioned how she thought the Silk Light Vanilla Soy milk wasn’t as sweet as her sister’s milk, and that she really liked the Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milk. Just for fun I also purchased the Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk for dinner, which is absolutely divine. [click to continue…]

When my oldest daughter, Abigail, was born, my husband and I discovered she was allergic to cow’s milk. Every time she ingested dairy, her face, arms, and legs would break out in eczema. From the time she was two years old, she has been drinking soy and rice milk as the rest of the family continued to drink regular milk. From time to time I enjoy a soy latte; however, soy milk has never been a part of my regular diet.
When my family and I were invited to participate in the “Least Challenging Challenge” by the producers of Silk non-dairy products, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to switch the whole family over for a week to see if it was something our whole family could enjoy. The challenge we accepted was to switch from regular milk to Silk Pure Almond Vanilla and Silk Soy Vanilla Light for a minimum of one week. As I explained this challenge with Abigail she was hesitant because her favorite soy product is Silk Very Vanilla Soy milk. The “light” version of her favorite milk was a subtle but seemingly big change. As a ten year old girl who is quite particular about certain favorite products my greatest fear was that she would resist the change. There was also my three year old son, who drinks a lot of regular milk and gets very upset if I try to have him drink soy milk. Quite honestly, I am looking forward to this challenge for the health benefits of both soy and almond milk. [click to continue…]

We are finishing up our final Christmas giveaway with an awesome 5 1/2 cup Zojirushi Umami Micom Rice Cooker (value $273). Zojirushi is known for their high quality kitchen appliances, especially rice cookers. They are considered the best rice cookers on the market because of their intuitive technology which makes perfect rice every single time.
The Zojirushi rice cooker not only makes great rice, it has multiple unique settings that go far and beyond what other cookers can do. The Zojirushi rice cooker soaks and steams the rice longer for enhanced flavor, which releases the natural sugar in the rice grains resulting in a noticeably different flavor compared to cooking on a regular setting. As the rice cooks, the rice cooker adjusts the temperature and cooking time so the rice is always perfect. This is not the case with most other rice cookers on the market.
The cooker also has different settings for cooking different types of grains or rice (white, Umami, mixed, sushi, porridge, sweet, brown, GABA brown, rinse-free, quick cooking and slow cook). This rice maker also doubles as a slow cooker making it a dual purpose appliance. It’s also small enough to store in a kitchen cupboard or left on the kitchen counter without taking up too much space. [click to continue…]
