comfort food

While flying home Sunday from New York City, I was very glad I packed Pam Anderson’s new cookbook, Perfect One-Dish Dinners: All You Need for Easy Get-Togethers in my carry-on bag.  I received her cookbook in a bag of goodies from an all-day food blogging workshop in Pam’s summer home.  While soaking in all the beautiful photos and recipes in her latest book, I started to make mental notes of which recipes I wanted to try first.  I plan on writing up a formal review in a post soon, but for right now all I can say is this book is gorgeous and practical – my kind of book.  I’ve already cooked out of it three times and I’ve only been home for a few days!!

{UPDATE-August 19} My formal review of Pam’s new cookbook is up along with a sweet giveaway of three copies of her new cookbook.

I love my friend and fellow food blogger, Jennifer Perrillo. In September we were roommates for BlogherFood09 in San Francisco.  During our time together she was so kind to give me all sorts of wonderful things to bring back to Seattle.  This included a copy of Japanese Hot Pots: Comforting One-Pot Meals by Tadashi Ono and Harris Salat. I was so thrilled because I had been looking through it in our hotel room asking questions about it.  During my flight home I scanned through each recipe.  With every turn of the page my appetite for hot pot grew.  Browsing through the book one can’t help but notice the stunning food photography -the photos are beyond beautiful. The first recipe I tried was Kinoko Nabe a.k.a. Mushroom Hot Pot.  And fyi, I’ve made this 4 times since reading the book! [click to continue…]

CasseroleDish

I love a good casserole, don’t you?  You know what I love more?  When I get to eat a good casserole, especially when I’m not the one who prepared it!

A few years ago my husband (bless his heart) tried his hand at making a casserole.  You would have to know him to understand how thoughtful it was of him to do this.  Let’s just put it this way, cooking and baking is not something which comes naturally to him.  Eating what I bake and cook is entirely a different story. Salt and Pepper London Broil

One of my greatest joys is being able to live so close to family.  My youngest sister lives 5 minutes away and we see each other quite often.  She and her husband welcomed their first child in March and as new parents they are adjusting very well considering what little sleep they are getting these days.  However, the meals on wheels from friends, family, and church have slowed down to nada.  So after spending some time with them today I invited them over to dinner.. not to a clean house (that’s the beauty of family)  .. but just dinner.  That’s the least I could do considering she was up 5 times last night.  My kids were really excited to see their baby cousin so they decided to set the table just like a restaurant with menus and place cards.  Tonight’s special would be London broil, asparagus, and mashed potatoes.
