{Simple and Amazing} Blueberry Sauce Recipe

by alice on February 28, 2010 · 17 comments

I’m so excited to share with you this simple but amazing blueberry sauce. This recipe is very similar to the cranberry sauce recipe I shared on the site months ago, but make no mistake, this blueberry sauce does not take a back seat to no other.  My breakfast today went from ordinary to extraordinary when I spooned this warm blueberry sauce over my stack of pancakes. I could not help but feel so spoiled while eating it.  I can’t explain in words how awesome this simple blueberry sauce really is, you will just have to make it yourself to understand why I love it so much.  Trust me, if you pour this warm sauce over pancakes you will feel like you died and gone to heaven – that good. Best of all, this recipe is ridiculously easy. If you cannot cook and you make this for your friends and family, they’ll suddenly think you’ve gone gourmet on them. [click to continue…]

Seven Layer Dip Recipe

by alice on February 3, 2010 · 32 comments

Did you know the way to a man’s heart is through seven layer dip?  Seriously.  Superbowl Sunday is days away and football fans everywhere will be dipping tortilla chips in guacamole, salsa, and refried beans.

Seven layer dip is the best of all worlds.  The dip itself is very easy to make especially if you buy pre-made guacamole and salsa.

Instead of preparing the dip in a large platter I decide to make individual sized portions.  This way I can pull them out of the fridge as needed.  If you’re looking for an easy and fun dip to celebrate Superbowl Sunday or any party, look no further. Enjoy! [click to continue…]

Easy Guacamole Recipe

by alice on January 19, 2010 · 17 comments

Yesterday I showed you how to make an easy pico de gallo. Today I’m introducing you to her cousin, easy guacamole. What I love about this recipe is the fact you basically make pico de gallo and add some to mashed ripened avocados. I told you it was easy! It’s like getting 2-for-1. And the guacamole is good…. really good.

True story – I’ve been making guacamole like this for years. I typically would make a batch of pico de gallo and use some of it to make guacamole. I thought I was being clever and resourceful. After all, I hadn’t seen [click to continue…]

Homemade Croutons Recipe

by alice on January 10, 2010 · 13 comments

Baked Seasoned Croutons
When I was in middle school I used to to work at my uncle’s deli during summers. Some of my job duties included making sandwiches, baking cookies, prepping salads, and making seasoned croutons using leftover sandwich bread from the day before.  The nice thing about making croutons at home is the ability to make fresh croutons for salads and soups in small batches.  However, I like making croutons because it helps me not to waste stale bread which otherwise may be tossed out and thrown away.  Besides, how many times have you bought a box of croutons to make for a salad, only to let the rest of the box go stale (bye bye $3)?  By making your own, you can make small batches which is great for being frugal and saving money.  This recipe uses only a few ingredients you likely have in your cupboard and can also be used for “seasoned cubed bread” needed in stuffing recipes.

PS: Kids and grown-ups love snacking on them.  [click to continue…]

Dulce De Leche

by alice on December 17, 2009 · 39 comments

dulcedeleche

It is crunch time around here. I still have lots of baking and other homemade food items to make, package, and deliver for Christmas.  This Christmas I made  dulce de leche for the kids to give to their teachers.  Because time is precious, I am going to show you how to make this under 30 minutes (20 minutes to be exact) using a pressure cooker or the more common way of cooking it on the stovetop.
