Bourbon Croissant Bread Pudding Recipe

by alice on December 24, 2009 · 11 comments

I am happy to share with you one of my favorite breakfast dishes, Bourbon Croissant Bread Pudding.  The first time I tried this was earlier in the year after discovering it SuperChef’s, Mirch Masala’s site.  She adapted the recipe from Nigella and let me tell you, it’s a keeper.  This dish is indulgent in every way.  Buttery croissants, heavy cream, caramel sauce, and bourbon coming together for a special bread pudding suitable for any special breakfast or brunch.  Day old croissants work best and if you don’t have croissants, challah would be a great substitute.  I made this croissant pudding with leftover croissants I bought in bulk at Sams Club.  Use what works for you and if you prefer rum, by all means knock yourself out.  And of course you can just omit any alcohol all together.  [click to continue…]

Breakfast Casserole Recipe

by alice on December 20, 2009 · 23 comments

All the holiday cookies and treats have been baked. Presents still need
to be purchased, wrapped, and placed beneath the Christmas tree. It’s hard to believe that in just a few days my kids will be running to our family room at the crack of dawn to see what Santa brought them. I typically wake up around 6am to bake cinnamon rolls and make coffee so when the family wakes up the smell is permeating throughout our house.

From there I sneak back into bed and listen for the sound of feet running across our creaking hardwood floors towards our bedroom. The kids will be shouting at us with joy and excitement begging us to get up so they can open presents. From there, I go straight to the kitchen to pour my husband and I a cup of coffee, remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and replacing it with our traditional Breakfast Casserole to bake. While we wait for our casserole, our family enjoys opening presents and eating freshly baked cinnamon rolls. This has been our tradition for the past 10 years and every year I look forward to it. Chocolate Gingerbread Cake Recipe

FACT:  I am a cake lady.  I have no shame in admitting this because I love cake!  However, all cakes are not created equal.  When it comes to cake I only like to eat good ones.  Why waste calories on bad cake?  The only cakes I actively avoid are typical grocery store cakes; you know, the single layer 9″ round cake with airbrushed frosting made from fluffed up shortening.   But when a great tasting cake is set before me I become undone.  I can’t stop eating it, even whole cakes have been known to mysteriously disappear from our kitchen. Today I would like to share a super easy no-bake Christmas treat with you.  It is so easy even a 2 year old can make them – I kid you not.   Back in 2003 when our kitchen also was our laundry room too, I captured this video of Abigail (now 8.5 yrs old) making chocolate covered pretzels dipped in crushed candy cane.  She was only 2 years old and was the most adorable helper, ever!  Below is the short clip of Abigail making this on our extended counter space (washer and dryer) with me filming her with my (then) 11 month old daughter attached to me with a sling. Puppy Chow Recipe – Muddy Buddies

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when some of the most yummiest treats are also the most easiest to make. Ten years ago my friend Nancy gave each woman in our small group a beautifully packaged container of Puppy Chow aka Muddy Buddies. This was the first time I had ever had this “crazy good” treat. From the first bite I was hooked but also intrigued by what it was made of. When she told me how she made it I couldn’t believe it because it was such an easy recipe yet the combination of all the ingredients produced such a wonderful taste. I will warn you though, it is very addicting. Batches of this stuff have been known to disappear within minutes in our home. Best of all, Chex now makes their rice and corn cereal Gluten-Free.
