What I was thinking when I bought a 10 pound case of frozen blackberries? Nevertheless, they are taking up valuable real estate in our itsy-bitsy freezer. So don’t be surprised if you see an excessive amount of blackberry recipes on Savory Sweet Life coming to the world wide web soon. On the other hand, if you love blackberries (like I do) then you’re in for a real treat.
Inspired by the gorgeous Seattle (hot) weather yesterday, an abundance of blackberries, and a thriving patch of mint growing just outside my front door, what I have for you today is an awesome recipe for Blackberry Mint Lemonade.
Using a good quality store-bought lemonade, I made a simple syrup made of water, sugar, and torn mint leaves. I added two cups of frozen blackberries (feel free to use fresh if you have them) to my blender and poured the simple syrup over them using a strainer to catch the mint. I blended the mixture ever so gently, being careful to not puree the blackberries but to break them up just enough so little bits of fruit could fit through a drinking straw.
Can I just say how refreshing and awesome this drink is on a hot day? Imagine all the different ways to adapt this recipe . For instance, you could cut the lemonade with sparkling water. Or, you could easily add a shot of rum or vodka for a nice summer cocktail. Oh the possibilities!
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 18 mint leaves, torn
- 2 cups frozen/fresh blackberries
- ice
- 3 mint sprigs
- 4 cups natural store-bought lemonade
- mint sprigs
- Bring the water and sugar to boil in a small pot. Stir the water/sugar mixture until the sugar is dissolved then turn off the heat. Add the torn mint leave and give the pot a stir. Allow the simple syrup to cool.
- Add the blackberries to a blender. Place a strainer over the mouth of the blender and pour the mint simple syrup into the container. Discard the mint leaves. Blend the simple syrup and the blackberries on low speed for just a few seconds at a time, just enough to break the berries apart but not enough to puree them.
- Fill a juice pitcher halfway with ice and add the mint sprigs. Pour the lemonade and the blackberry mixture over the ice. Stir the blackberry mint lemonade and add more ice if necessary before serving.

I love this recipe! I am a huge blackberry fan and I’ve never thought about adding it to lemonade. Not a huge mint fan so I’m gonna skip that one part. Beatiful pictures as well.

Well…here in Sydney right now we’re more into looking out for steaming hot cups of cocoa but the colour of your blackberry/mint lemonade is stunning and as I can buy frozen blackberries and also have mint growing I will give this a go – will help it warm us up by adding a little something from the liquor cabinet!
