[donotprint] I wish the combination of chocolate and peanut butter wasn’t so perfect together. My life would be so much easier if I were not tempted by these peanut butter kiss cookies the girls and I made the other night. You know I have a problem when I’ve eaten so many, I bake another batch while the girls are at school so I won’t be interrogated for missing cookies later when they get home. The other issue I have with these cookies is how easy it is to eat one, grab another, and before you know it, I’m caught in an addictive cycle of eating these cookies! It’s ridiculous!

Making these cookies are just beginning of our holiday baking. A cookie tray just isn’t complete without this classic cookie which for some reason seems to only appear around Christmas time. The girls and I love making these cookies because the dough only takes minutes to make and we always have fun pressing each Hershey’s Kiss down on each freshly baked peanut butter cookie right when they come out of the oven. The kids think I don’t know that they take a few Kisses plop them in their mouths when I’m not looking, but trust me… I know. It’s all good.
The batch we made last night only used 1 cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter, and 1 egg for the dough. The cookies came out more flat than I’m used to but were very good in flavor. But a small part of me wanted the cookies to look like the cookies of my youth. So after taking a moment to think how I could tweak this, I came up with my own variation which turned out very well. I’ve lost count on how many I’ve eaten but will happily share the recipe with you! Happy baking! [/donotprint]
Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies
Makes 2 dozen
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 brown sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup flour
1 cup creamy peanut butter
24 Hershey Kisses
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients except the chocolate in a stand mixer of by using a hand mixer for 1 minute. Scrape down the bowl and mix again for 1 more minute.
Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and set them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to allow the cookie dough to chill. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Once the oven is ready, remove cookies from the refrigerator and bake for 12 minutes.
Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press one chocolate kiss down on top of each cookie gently until the chocolate is set into place and the dough spreads out ever so slightly. Allow the cookies to completely cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!

When I was around 10 or 12, I made my dad a chocolate kiss Christmas tree a tradition I continued with my children when they were old enough, and I would alway buy an extra bag of kisses to bake these cookies. I cannot remember the last time I made them. Thank you for helping me relive some old memories!

My mom makes these perfectly but she rolls them in sugar before she bakes them! Love these <3

if you want to knock people flat (in a good way), wrap just enough dough around a mini snickers bar (mini, not fun size), and bake for 10-12 minutes. the snickers melts inside and makes an amazing cookie!

AND it works with Sunbutter (or at least the Trader Joe’s version)! Yeah! This has always been a fave of mine and now my daughter can enjoy them too without a sacrifice in flavor!

Hi Alice,
Its my first time in your blog and was hooked to it. Browsing your recipes and bookmarking at the same time.
Christmas is over but I cant wait for another christmas to try this one 🙂 ..Just one thing tho, can I use the chocolate ganache instead of the Kisses chocolates? It may not be the same shape but I hope it will work, coz I’m planning to make it this week end.
Thanks and I’m so grateful I stumbled on your site..

I tried this and they turned out tasting great! The only problem was, when I took them out of the oven, and put the kisses on, they not only cracked but almost crumbled to pieces :((. Did I not refrigerate for long enough? Or was it the flour? Who knows, haha, but they still tasted awesome!

hey there, these look so fab, have to try them asap, but wanted to know something: ive got a ton of Reese peanut butter cups in the house as a gift – can i use those instead of peanut butter? was thinking of breaking them into small pieces and adding to the dough…possibly even adding a chunk at the end instead of the kisses….will all this compromise the texture of the cookies?

i just finished baking these and had to comment on how amazing these are! i’m not usually a peanut butter fan nor a Hershey’s kiss fan (made these for my choco-fan hubby), but i just popped one in my mouth and i can’t help but run back to the kitchen for more!
very soft and moist, not dry at all. thanks for the great recipe!

I just made these today and they turned out beautifully! For anyone who wants to use Dark Chocolate Kisses…just an FYI, they melt A LOT if you press them in right away and you end up with blobs. I didn’t have this problem with the normal milk chocolate ones. My hubby made a great suggestion: after removing cookies from the oven, create a flat spot for the kisses (I used a wine cork), then plop the kisses on after the cookies are a little cooler. This worked great!

These are by far my favorite cookies. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

I just made these with our 3 y.o. son. This was a great recipe to use with him. He did a great job measuring out the flour and sugar and turning on the mixer (with some help from me). We couldn’t find any Kiss-like candies at Trader Joe’s this morning, so we used mini PB cups. Incredible.

These cookies are a personal favorites! I can just smell that peanut butter now. I will be making these this year – or I’ll have a family revolt. I think they are so good when slightly warm. Yummy! Great photos. Chocolate and peanut butter – MFEO

If you love these, you have to try the holiday version I came up with Hershey’s candy cane kisses. They are a limited Christmas edition, but so good!! http://burntapple.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/post-shopping-cookies/

I made these with my son on Saturday. Delish! Thanks for the recipe. I thought I’d share a step that we do in my family. We roll the dough in sugar before baking. We love it!
