About Alice

Hello, my name is Alice. I’m the cook, baker, writer, and photographer of SavorySweetLife.com. Here are some other things you should know about me. I love my family, drink way too much coffee, and keep a secret stash of chocolate hidden from my children -like every good mommy does. I’ve been married to Rob for 10.5 years and have three of the greatest children (Abbi, Mimi, and Eli) a mother could ever have hoped for. I manage our household (SAHM) on a daily basis volunteering at school, shuttling the kids to and from sports, and have given up the notion (entirely) that my house will ever be neat and tidy. After everyone has gone to bed, I am often working on blog related things until the wee hours of the morning munching on snacks I probably shouldn’t be. You should also know I have a personal blog called Everyday Alice. You won’t find recipes there but you will find a word of encouragement from musings about life, parenting, and self-reflections.
I started this blog as a creative outlet and an expression of many things I enjoyed most in life: food, photography, and (most importantly) – sharing with others. I launched Savory Sweet Life the last week of February of 2009 and since then, my life has never been the same. {Press Mentions}
Last year I was invited to New York City by Bon Appétit for their annual holiday bake-off- bringing my bacon caramel pecan bars with me across the country-almost being stopped by airport security because of them! In March 2010, Savory Sweet Life was featured on Forbes.com as one of “Eight of The Very Best Food Bloggers” and the following week was chosen as the winner of Saveur’s food photography “Cover Contest”. Savory Sweet Life has also been featured and mentioned on numerous online sites such as Martha Stewart, Real Simple, The Pioneer Woman, Epicuious, Bon Appétit, Saveur (Sites We Love),Life Hacker, Cafe Mom, Amazon, IVillage, All-Top, Serious Eats, Craft, and many many more. Savory Sweet Life is also a proud member of Martha’s Circle – a network of lifestyle blogs selected by the editors of Martha Stewart Omnimedia.
To say it has been an exciting year would be quite the understatement! I love what I do and deeply appreciate everyone who has supported me along the way and continues to do so!
When it comes to the recipes on Savory Sweet Life, I prefer to keep it simple, approachable, yet wonderful to eat and enjoy with others.
- Littlest Pet Shop Birthday Cake for my daughter
Prior to having children I worked in the design and food service industry. My background in 3D animation and restaurant experience eventually led me to start my own wedding cake business. Although I no longer do wedding cakes anymore, I still bake and decorate birthday cakes for each of my children. I also freelance my design and photography work.
Currently I welcome opportunities for recipe development or other food related projects including food photography, product reviews (kitchen gadgets, cookware and appliances), and promotional events and appearances.
If you are a PR company, please understand I will only consider (and not guarantee) product reviews and promotional events which fit within the spirit and character of Savory Sweet Life as well as my personal taste. If you do not hear back from me within 2 days, please consider this a kind decline of your request. Thank you!
You can also find me on Twitter: @SavorySweetLife and on Savory Sweet Life’s Facebook Fan page.
If you would like to contact me, please email me at alice@savorysweetlife.com or use this form. I look forward to hearing from you!

I came across your website when looking for an easy but stand-out recipe for cranberry sauce. I found and used yours and instantly became hooked on your site.
I love the ease of your recipes – from the explanations and the photos you provide of the steps are excellent. You captured what every working housewife needs in a virtual recipe site!

Alice, I made your chicken marsala last night. I have made several different recipes of this dish because my daughter loves mushrooms. My husband said that this version was his favorite and I must add that it was the easiest recipe that I have made of this dish. Your neighbor in Poulsbo.
Found your site through the SAVEUR.com “Shoot the Cover” contest (congrats on winning!). Just looked through your recipes and can’t wait to try some out!

You people that do these blogs are all so very talented, so artistic and creative. I have quite a few of you set up on “My Yahoo” page. I will be making your spinach stuffed portobellos. Of course I will remove the gills without question, that is how you prep a portobello, always.
Dear Alice!
I stumbled upon your site from doing research about my own. I have just started up my own food blog based on the same ideas as you, trying to improve my cooking skills from the home cook perspective.
The plan is to test out recipes from amazing food bloggers around the world and see how easy they are for your everyday weeknight meals. I will definitely be trolling through your site for great recipes to try and link through to from my own.
Can’t wait!
Fantastic site.. great ideas, clear and to the point.
I was just given a link to Savory Sweet Life. I’m so excited to read through everything.
