Hello, my name is Alice. I’m the cook, baker, writer, and photographer of SavorySweetLife.com and the author of the cookbook SAVORY SWEET LIFE: 100 Simply Delicious Recipes for Every Family Occasion (William Morrow/HarperCollins June 2012). I also write a weekly food column for PBS Parents and host a cooking series on the PBS Digital Studios network featuring great food and authentic interactions from a 3 generational Korean-American family.
I love my family, drink way too much coffee, and keep a secret stash of chocolate (the good stuff!) hidden from my children like every good mom does. I’ve been married to Rob for 14 years and have three of the greatest children (Abbi-12, Mimi-11, and Eli-5) a mother could ever have hoped for. On any given day you can find me shuttling my kids to and from school, sports practices, and cooking up recipes to share with you. After everyone has gone to bed, I am often working on blog related things until the wee hours of the morning munching on snacks I probably shouldn’t be. I love technology, traveling, food culture, eating out with friends, exercising, and quiet meditation through prayer and reflection (Jer. 29:11).
I started this blog as a creative outlet and an expression of many things I enjoyed most in life: food, photography, and most importantly sharing with others. When it comes to the recipes on Savory Sweet Life, I prefer to keep it simple, approachable, yet wonderful to eat and enjoy with others. I launched Savory Sweet Life the last week of February of 2009 and since then my life has never been the same (press mentions). Two of my blogging career highlights happened in March 2010 when Forbes.com named me as one of “Eight Of The Very Best Bloggers” and shortly after I won Saveur.com’s first ever “Photo Cover Contest.” I love what I do and deeply appreciate everyone who has supported me along the way and continues to do so!
Prior to having children I worked in the design and food service industry. My background in 3D animation and restaurant experience eventually led me to start my own wedding cake business. Although I no longer do wedding cakes anymore, I still bake and decorate birthday cakes for each of my children.
