Classic Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Classic Oatmeal Raisin Cookies [donotprint]

Today I made a batch of these classic oatmeal raisin cookies for my husband because they are his favorite.  I adapted the classic Quaker Oats recipe,  made 1/2 a batch, and then I ate 6 of them.  I justified eating them by telling myself.. they’re whole grain, they have fiber, and its better than baking and eating the cake I wanted to.  My logic is very screwed up, but still.. at least I get to share them with you!

But seriously folks, classic oatmeal raisin cookies are where its at.  Reminiscent of childhood, I dare you to eat just one.  This recipe is an oldie, but a goodie.  Enjoy! [/donotprint]

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Adapted from the Quaker Oats box

Ingredients
1  cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1  cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2  cup granulated sugar
2  eggs
1  teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2  cups all-purpose flour
1  teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1  teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2  teaspoon salt
3  cups oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
1  cup raisins

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Cream butter and sugars in a mixer until creamy, approximately 3 minutes.  Add eggs and vanilla and beat for another 2 minutes.  Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt and continue to mix until the dough has come together.  Add oats and raisins until mix until raisins are distributed.  Drop by rounded tablespoons or cookie scoop onto cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until edges are golden brown.  Remove from oven and allow the cookies to remain on cookie sheet for 3 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.  Enjoy!

Hi Alice, I found your chocolate chip recipe months and months ago (it’s the only one I’ll use!) I decided to check and see if you had an oatmeal raisin.. voila! Of course. I noticed someone mentioning that they are crunchy- Is there a way to lessen the crunch? I love my cookies soft…. 🙂

I made these cookies today and they tasted great.
But they didn’t spread as nicely as yours.
They just stayed in their tablespoon shape.

Oatmeal Cookies are a personal favorite. I also love to replace the raisins with craisins and/or add chopped macadamia nuts and coconut.

Your logic is perfect, I use the same train of thought. I too love oatmeal rasin cookies, but I have to split the batch in half since not everyone in the family does. Try the recipe on my blog – and of course add some raisins. The cookies really aren’t very pretty (the cocoa makes them sort of grey), so I didn’t even bother with pix, but they are one of the better cookie recipes I’ve tried.

Yum… I love oatmeal cookies! They’re calling for chilly temps this week (highs in the 20’s.. yikes!) and I’m thinking baking some cookies will be a great way to warm up.

Oh man… these are by far my favorite cookies. I’m not a sweets kinda gal but there’s something about the salt and raisins in these cookies that really does it for me.

Just made these tonight…yum! They’re much crunchier than the Quaker version, I like that. It makes them kind of a fancy style cookie in that respect, but still down home goodness! Guess the extra crunch is the extra butter! Nutmeg is very nice, too. My3 year old daughter wanted hers w/o raisins and they’re still super! (I made mine with…thinking of adding chocolate chips next time!)

LOVE your logic ladies – makes total sense to me! Those cookies look awesome! I’ll be making a batch tonight, but will “have” to swap chocolate chips for the raisins (dear hubs doesn’t like the old wrinkled grapes :-S). Ah well… maybe if I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose… that will cancel out the chocolate… right??? 🙂

I LOVE the cookies from the Quaker box. They really are great. I would love to know what changes you made to the recipe. I guess I could find out for myself haha. Lovely photos!

    Hi Memoria,
I increased the amount of brown sugar and butter and also added baking powder, and a touch of nutmeg. Aren’t they great cookies?!
