Lean Beef – It’s What’s For Dinner plus $100 Giveaway

Last update: March 6, 2018 By Alice Currah 11 Comments

I’m excited to share with you about one of my favorite foods to eat. BEEF – It’s what’s for dinner at the Currah house each week. A few weeks ago the National Beef Association contacted me about working together to share about some great interactive features on their website including an “Interactive Meat Case” at, Beef It’s What’s For Dinner. This interactive feature shares practical information and useful tips for selecting beef in the meat case.  I like this feature because often times I will ask the butcher person at the grocery store on how to prepare certain cuts of beef and what to use it for.  Honestly, sometimes I’m not sure if I believe what they tell me because often times I will buy meat based on price point and if I’m unfamiliar on how to use a certain cut of meat, I’ll ask them but not 100% confident on what they said. This tool helps me understand what types of meals I can make with certain cuts.  I also like the tab on the main home page called “Shopping for Beef”.  Lots of great information on how much beef to buy, beef for every budget, etc.  There is also a recipe tab on the site if you need some inspiration for tonight’s dinner.

My partnership with the National Beef Association is focused on “Lean” beef – which is what we most commonly eat in our family.  I took a short “Lean Beef Personality Match up survey which asked a few different lifestyle questions.  When I was finished with the survey it told me which cut of beef was best for our family. Surprisingly, the survey results were very accurate by matching us with Top Sirloin.  This was the perfect match for us because it is a very versatile cut of beef, quite tender, and often times inexpensive.  For our family of five, I typically only buy 1-1.5 lbs which makes a nice steak dinner very affordable.  As much as I enjoy a good rib-eye steak, my husband is a die-hard lean beef guy so he was also happy about our match.  Apparently Rob also knows more about lean beef than I do because when I looked at this nutritional chart info regarding fat (for lean beef), I was surprised by how some of them ranked but Rob was well aware of this info.  Who knew?

The next couple of days I will be doing a fantastic giveaway sponsored by the National Beef Association.  Tomorrow and Wednesday I will be posting a top sirloin beef recipe from their website you will not want to miss.  It is sooooo easy, fast, and quite tasty – my type of meal.

I am giving away two swag bags, one for Tuesday and one for Wednesday.  The winner of each bag will receive an “I Love Lean Beef” apron, an insulated black grocery shopping bag, and a $100 Visa gift card for you to enjoy.  Just a quick and funny note about the tote bag.  I have a ton of reusable grocery bags but this one is quite lovely.  Not only is it insulated, it also zips at the top and is more sturdier than others because of the insulated lining.  My youngest daughter used it all day while we were downtown as her hobo bag purse because she liked it so much.  Now I’m not suggesting you use the bag as a designer purse, but the zipping feature elevates this bag to one I plan on using more often and if you have mall children, they might start using it as their bag – just saying.

More instructions to how to enter the giveaway will be posted tomorrow however I’ll give you a clue to a necessary step you’ll be required to take before entering.  Each person will be required to take a short Lean Beef Personality Match up Survey.  You’ll be required to comment on the next two posts on which lean beef cut you were matched with.  For those of you who want to take this step today so you can enter tomorrow and Wednesday, be my guest.  Or you could just wait till you’re ready.  So come back tomorrow for a great beef kabob recipe and a chance to win $100.

Disclosure:  The Beef Association provided the swag bag as mentioned above for this giveaway.  Savory Sweet Life was also compensated with a giftcard to help offset the costs of groceries related to recipes Alice’s is preparing for this series of posts as well as shipping costs associated with mailing prizes to the winner.

Boy, the beef match-up personality quiz didn’t match with me at all. I needed a “none of the above” response to almost every question, and didn’t have two answers in the same category!

That said, I love love love beef – when we BBQ, I get my local meat market to cut gorgeous fresh 1-1/2″ thick ribeye steaks for me. A little steak spice, just medium rare, a good shiraz, and life is perfect!
