Last year during this time I made a New Year’s resolution to start blogging. My son was only 8 months old and I was in desperate need of a creative outlet. I was so busy caring for my husband and three children that I lost myself. The last 8 years have been devoted to raising my kids and supporting their activities and I needed to have something for myself, so I started this blog as therapy. This blog would be for me; my slice of personal domain where I could do all the things I enjoyed doing in the quietness of the night after everyone went to bed. This is how Savory Sweet Life was born. I felt so much joy doing all the things I love to do: photography, design, cooking, baking, and sharing with others in a tangible way. I’ve loved the challenge of learning new things and also discovered I did like blogging. I’ve come to love all the perks that come with it: community, social networking, friendships, and a sense of joy knowing people have enjoyed my site and recipes. It is this same enthusiasm that I look forward to carrying into 2010. I have no idea what is in store for me but I plan on continuing to do what I’ve been doing and enjoy the ride. Savory Sweet Life has always been, and will continue to be, a resource of trusted recipes I enjoy making for my family and friends. Perhaps each post is light on narrative because writing was not something I ever set out to do. Instead I wanted to share with you, my friends, all the food I love to eat with photos to help you along the way.
I appreciate all the wonderful comments and emails that share your stories, adaptations, and encouragement. Although I may not reply to every comment made on the blog, I want you to know I read every one of them and they truly bring joy to my day. Thank you for supporting Savory Sweet Life. If it weren’t for you I would never have discovered all the joy this blog brings to me and my family.
And it is in the spirit of growing that I am announcing the launch of a second blog: EverydayAlice.com. A few months ago I realized as much as I love sharing all things food with the world, I want to share other things I enjoy too. Everyday Alice will be more personal; a place you can come to get to know me more. A place I can share with you things I like, the people I love, and stories of life as it happens. I do hope you’ll stop by and say hello.
Thank you for all your support this year. I wish you much peace, love, and joy in 2010. Happy New Year!
Alice
PS: It just wouldn’t be right not to post a recipe, so here is an oldie but a goodie. A homemade version of the famous Girl Scout Cookies, Do-Si-Dos, I present to you Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches. Enjoy!
Recipe can be found here.

Add me to the list of folks that found you through Pioneer Woman. Thank you for the wonderful recipes that our whole family enjoys! Your chicken/rice casserole has already made it into regular rotation!
You have a fantastic blog — thank you so much for all that you share!

Hi Alice,
I found your website thru Pioneer Woman & Tasty Kitchen. I’v been delighted with what I’ve seen so far. And I found this post and just had to comment. I, too, manage my household, consisting of a hard-working hubby and 2 kids ages 5 and barely-2. I am a chronic nightowl and love staying up and having my ‘me time’ after everyone else is in bed…although I have gotten carried away with it lately. Up too way late! And I am a new blogger, trying to find my bearings, (posted above) as an outlet to share encouragement and random thoughts. I look forward to getting to ‘know you’ , as well as trying some of your recipes! (i’m also ‘krisdot’ on Tasty Kitchen, though I don’t have any recipes up yet! I’m still somewhat of a novice in the kitchen! )

Hi Alice — I enjoy your blog very much. The new site sounds good, too, as long as it doesn’t take time away from your food blog! Thanks. — Carol

GREAT idea, Alice! I struggle myself with information on my blog that’s not always food-related but that’s so much a part of my daily life…like the way you’ve chosen to incorporate it!

Oh my goodness Alice…I just “discovered” you and your recipes last week via P-Dub’s site and here you are “rewarding” me with more of you! Sweeeet!
I made your de-lish bacon wrapped water chestnuts for a bunch of guys just back from a hunting trip over the weekend. Never thought they might not like water chestnuts…but, they said they didn’t and tried them anyway. Uhhhh, shoulda made about 4 times what I did because they gobbled them up. I had to stash some away for myself to have later….thanks so much!

Alice, Happy New Year! I am so glad that you’ve started another blog and I love the little part of your life that you shared with us. You are pure awesomeness, but I’m sure people tell you that all the time, but I don’t think you get enough “awesomelicious,” so I’ll call you that instead. You’re awesomelicious and your family is very lucky to have such an awesome person in their lives!
I’m heading over to the new blog… 🙂

That is exciting!
When I saw how beautifully you have renovated your home, I told huzbeau that you have other talents that you weren’t letting on about.
Yay!

Alice, you’re an inspiring role model for me, a relatively new mom who loves to cook and bake and share things with her loved ones. Thank you for hanging in there and showing us how it’s done. Best wishes for 2010!

I’ve felt the same way about blogging – it’s a way to explore, share, grow and make wonderful new friends. I hope 2010 is a fantastic year for you and your new site too!

There’s just something about blogging that seems just right. hehehe… I’ll be checking you other blog out.

I felt similarly to your sentiments about blogging. I was really focused on being a mommy that I didn’t know who I was anymore. Blogging made me realize my passions (baking), enjoying new things (photography) and connecting with people with similar interests.
I am sure I’ll be checking out your second blog.

I’ve only just recently come to your blog. It’s funny how we enter this world. I was a nurse for almost 45 years, in forenics for the last 21. I lost my job in massive budget cuts to the San Francisco Dept of Public Health and retired, not happily! Blogging has helped me stay sane and kept me from plummeting into depression. I am new to your lovely site…and I will check out everyday Alice.com

I can completely understand where you are coming from about “blog therapy” although a few times I let it slip into being a chore this past year. But for the most part, it’s been fun and has challenged me. Happy New Year and I look forward to 2010.
