A few days ago my family and I started the “Least Challenging Challenge” by the producers of Silk non-dairy products. The challenge was to switch from regular milk, and in the case of my oldest daughter switch from her normal soy milk, to Silk Light Vanilla and Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milks. I was already concerned with the transition, and sure enough on the first day the kids were upset with me. My three year old son, Eli, actually cried. He loves eating cereal most mornings and he did not appreciate me changing products even though we were out of regular milk. He decided instead not to eat his breakfast at all. My older daughters switched over with very little fuss. Abigail is used to drinking Silk Very Vanilla Soy milk so she didn’t mind very much switching over to a lighter version. My other daughter, Mimi, mentioned how she thought the Silk Light Vanilla Soy milk wasn’t as sweet as her sister’s milk, and that she really liked the Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milk. Just for fun I also purchased the Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk for dinner, which is absolutely divine.
My preference so far has been the Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milk. It is so good and has a smooth taste. For me it has been a treat, especially in my morning lattes and coffee. This morning breakfast was non-eventful, which is a good thing. Both daughters ate their morning cereals with Silk Light Vanilla Soy and Eli was content with the Silk Pure Almond Vanilla milk. My husband and I have also been enjoying the almond milk with our morning coffee and cereal. I appreciate the fact that each cup of the vanilla almond milk I’m drinking is only 90 calories each serving and contains 50% more calcium than the regular milk I’m used to drinking daily. I know women need lots of calcium for the health of their bones.
My next post I’ll share with you how the Least Challenging Challenge went along with my final insights!

Hi Karen,
Thanks for your encouraging words. You would be surprised how many non-dairy options are available now days including non-dairy half and half. 🙂

Hi Shay,
Yes, it’s not cheap is it. My oldest daughter loves the Very Vanilla, too. 🙂

I tried Silk out on my family. My mom can drink the Light Vanilla, but me and my kids are Very Vanilla fans. They took to the Very Vanilla so well, I had to limit how much they drank it since it’s not cheap. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing. I hope this will prove to be healthy for consumers and they will be happy.

Thanks for sharing! I’m not vegan by any means, but love vanilla soy milk with my cereal.
Is the purpose of the challenge to move more people towards veganism? Will you be baking with Silk products too?

Hi Alice! My oldest daughter is a vegetarian also and although she isn’t crazy about soy milk I started buying Silk Vanilla and Silk Light Vanilla a couple of years ago with her in mind. I started to put it on my breakfast cereal just to use it up and became addicted to the stuff. I look forward to it each morning and I wouldn’t want cereal without it now. I usually don’t drink it, but I just tried it in my coffee and I like the little sweetness it gives. I think I may switch from half and half to Silk also for my coffee. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your blog. I really enjoy it!

Hi Lannie,
I think the purpose of the challenge is for people to think beyond regular milk. Soy, rice, almond, and coconut milks (in general) has come a long ways in terms of taste and health benefits. With so many people allergic to dairy or making changes to their diets for other reasons, it’s great to know there are delicious alternatives out there.
