Seven Layer Dip Recipe

Last update: July 18, 2016 By Alice Currah 48 Comments

Did you know the way to a man’s heart is through seven layer dip?  Seriously.  Superbowl Sunday is days away and football fans everywhere will be dipping tortilla chips in guacamole, salsa, and refried beans.

Seven layer dip is the best of all worlds.  The dip itself is very easy to make especially if you buy pre-made guacamole and salsa.

Instead of preparing the dip in a large platter I decide to make individual sized portions.  This way I can pull them out of the fridge as needed.  If you’re looking for an easy and fun dip to celebrate Superbowl Sunday or any party, look no further. Enjoy!

An easy recipe for Seven Layer Dip.
Ingredients
  • 1 - 16 oz can refried beans
  • 1 - 1 oz package taco seasoning
  • 1 8 oz container sour cream
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • 1 cup pico de gallo or salsa
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (for gluten-free please use fresh shredded cheese. Pre-shredded cheese often has gluten added to prevent caking)
  • 1 2.25 oz can black olives, chopped or sliced
  • ½ cup green onions, chopped
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl mix the refried beans and taco seasonings.
  2. Spread the mixture in a pie plate sized platter or several small individual containers.
  3. Next, layer the sour cream followed by the guacamole and salsa.
  4. Top the dip off with Cheddar cheese, chopped olives, and green onions.
  5. Serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Taco seasoning usually has wheat, so for gluten free skip that step or use your own gf spices. (my mom is gluten intolerant so i usually adapt recipes for her).

I haven’t been up to much lately. So it goes. What can I say? I’ve just been letting everything wash over me recently, not that it matters. I just don’t have much to say these days.

I also have always heated this dip- melted cheese makes it much more irresistable. just place in pie tin & heat on 350* until cheddar melts.

This is an adorable idea! What size jar did you use and how many servings did you get out of it? I’m definitely making this for the Super Bowl this year!!

Those little dip jars are adorable and clever. Great way to keep people from double dipping in the bowl!

this is such a fantastic idea! I can’t tell you how many times I have *accidentally* devoured a full-sized dish of 7-layer dip over the course of an evening! I love the idea of individual jars of 7-layer goodness to tuck in the fridge and enjoy over a few days! Perfect take to work treat as well!
    thanks for the awesome idea!!

We are the camp that puts the taco seasoning in the sour cream but to really decadent…. add a little mayo to the sour cream/ taco seasoning layer. YUMMO. VERY creamy, but not low fat though… but it isn’t like this was meant to be… right? 🙂
