Did you know the way to a man’s heart is through seven layer dip? Seriously. Superbowl Sunday is days away and football fans everywhere will be dipping tortilla chips in guacamole, salsa, and refried beans.
Seven layer dip is the best of all worlds. The dip itself is very easy to make especially if you buy pre-made guacamole and salsa.
Instead of preparing the dip in a large platter I decide to make individual sized portions. This way I can pull them out of the fridge as needed. If you’re looking for an easy and fun dip to celebrate Superbowl Sunday or any party, look no further. Enjoy!
- 1 - 16 oz can refried beans
- 1 - 1 oz package taco seasoning
- 1 8 oz container sour cream
- 1 cup guacamole
- 1 cup pico de gallo or salsa
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (for gluten-free please use fresh shredded cheese. Pre-shredded cheese often has gluten added to prevent caking)
- 1 2.25 oz can black olives, chopped or sliced
- ½ cup green onions, chopped
- In a small bowl mix the refried beans and taco seasonings.
- Spread the mixture in a pie plate sized platter or several small individual containers.
- Next, layer the sour cream followed by the guacamole and salsa.
- Top the dip off with Cheddar cheese, chopped olives, and green onions.
- Serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Hi Chriss,
Just to clarify, I don’t can the jars.. I just put the dip in the jars. I made these a couple days ago and they still look pretty great in my refrigerator. I imagine the pico de gallo would stay fresh for at least a few days. Hope this helps!
Baking Is My Zen: OMG, These would rock as little Superbowl party favors, what a brilliant idea!!!
To everyone else who left comments about “double dipping”: Yes, must keep the seven layer dip away from those double dippers. Not to mention those with colds and flu. Honestly.. the motivation to put them in little jars was so I could be greedy and have my own without having to share. But this would definitely solve the double dipping issue!

Absolutely genius…they make great favors.

LOVE 7-layer dip, but had never thought to do individual servings like this–SO awesome!

I love the serving idea. Not only is it cute, it keeps each portion looking good until eaten. A half picked over pan of 7 layer dip starts to look sloppy and unappealing, your idea avoids that.
Plus, you don’t have to worry about some idiot double dipping!
Great job!

the individualized sized jars added a whole level of cuteness I never thought I could associate with seven layer dip. what a great idea!

This is great for the upcoming superbowl…yum!

Like some of the others who commented above, I’m in the “stir taco seasoning into sour cream” camp. The individual servings are pure genius-the better to double dip with!

I love the idea of single servings. How fun and creative!

I’ve made this classic often, but NEVER thought to put it in individual serving sized bowls! What a fan-tab-ulous idea!! Now I am guaranteed to be able to get some. Because I just can’t out-scoop my husband when we’re both battling over one big bowl 🙂

Individual dip jars? Brilliance! And you get bonus points for putting them in canning jars but… how long do they keep? Pico de gallo is delicious but… tends to be a little gross the next day. How far in advance do you usually make your dip stash?

I LOVE this idea because I had SHARING this stuff and double dipping would be TOTALLY appropriate! I’m also featuring this on Wednesday on my blog.

LOVE the individual portions. Then everyone feels special…and you don’t need to worry about double dippers! And it looks delicious.

Great idea! This looks so delicious! You made the perfect dip as I always find it hard to stick with just one dip for my nachos especially while watching tv. With your dip, I get the best of ALL worlds! hehehe. After eating all this, maybe I’ll wash it down with a cup of coffee made from my new saeco espresso coffee maker Great Post !!

Love them… I usually cook the beans with a bit of onions and jalapeño pepper, then put everything together and in the oven it goes to make it a hot dip. I’m going to try these and love the jar idea!

Your pictures are incredible!!!

I’ve never tried making this in small portions before… I do the same recipe only I mix my taco seasoning into the sour cream like Kate (easier to stir) and use black bean dip (I loooooove black beans!!) cute : )

I love that you made individual portions – so creative!! 🙂

Those are adorable! I am loving all the dips I am seeing in preparation of the Super Bowl!

Oh, your little dip jars are just darling! I love seven layer dip, but I’ve always made it with straight refried beans and mixing the taco seasoning with the sour cream. Then, of course, I have to restrain myself from eating taco flavored sour cream.
